Psychotherapy + Support

About

I’m Colleen–a licensed clinical social worker, therapist, mother, and spouse.

My aim is for families to cultivate deeper connections, simplify, and slow down in a rushed and ever-changing world. I support hopeful parents and current parents in finding peace in their inner self, so they can approach parenting with more steadiness.

I provide psychotherapy for individual adults, couples, and parents of young children who are navigating pre-conception through the beginning of adolescence. You might hear me use the term “The Young Child” which is more typically used in early education and policy spaces but here’s why I’m using it in my practice: The Young Child is a comprehensive term, including pre-birth through the beginning of adolescence. From years of working with families, navigating my own struggles with infertility, and now a parent of two young children, I know these early years as a family can be beautiful and messy.

My purpose is to support you and your family in your journey so that you can live a more cohesive life. I am an emotionally focused therapist which means I help facilitate emotional processing that assists in the creation of more secure relationships.

I approach therapy through these lenses: mindfulness-based, culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and attachment-focused. All sessions are conducted virtually over a HIPAA compliant telehealth service.

Services

Free Consultation

I offer a free 15-minute consultation to see if we would be a good fit.

Individual Counseling for Adults - 50-60 minutes / weekly / 8-20 weeks

Sessions will help you build a secure connection with yourself, manage difficult emotions, and heal from past trauma. This will help guide you to transform negative self-criticism, reduce anxiety and depression, and form healthier relationships with others. Psycho-social tools and resources will be provided in our work together.

Topics may include: pre-conception, infertility, loss, postpartum, emotional dysregulation, intrusive thoughts, feeling lost in parenthood, anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders.

Relationship Counseling - 50-60 minutes / weekly / 12 weeks

As a couple you may find that you want to work on your relationship pre-conception, during pregnancy, or as you adapt to raising young children. I offer couples therapy to build a united front, practice communication strategies, repair emotional distress, stop negative fight cycles, and build a safe, long-lasting bond with your partner.

Family Therapy for children 3-10 years old - 60-120 minutes / weekly or biweekly / 4-12 weeks

Our initial meeting will involve all available family members (the child, parents, and siblings) to address immediate issues as well as behaviors that brought the family to therapy. This will be a time for me, your therapist, to observe the child’s social, emotional, and cognitive skills through natural play with their parents and siblings inside the comfort of their home.

Whole-Family Sessions: The focus is on building secure emotional bonds, improving communication, and resolving conflict within the whole family. It helps remove blame from one child and includes everyone in the healing process.

Parent(s) and Child: establish secure attachment, repair emotional bonds, stop negative interaction patterns, and reframe a child’s behavior through play-based observation and support.

Parent(s)-Only Sessions: This removes pressure off the child while continuing to center treatment around their needs. This approach allows parents to address their own dysregulation, learn to co-regulate with their child, and process feelings of guilt and burnout that would not be possible or appropriate with their child in session.

Along with the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) I use the DC:0–5™ Diagnostic Classification of Mental Health and Developmental Disorders of Infancy and Early Childhood.

Fees + Coverage

I accept private pay and most branches of Delaware Medicaid.

I do not charge a higher rate for the initial intake session.

Individual Counseling for Adults: $175 per session

Relationship Counseling: $250 per session

Family Therapy: $200 per session

For individuals and families paying out of pocket, I will provide you with the correct receipts (called superbills) so that you can submit them to your insurance company.

After consultation and before we begin treatment, I will provide you with the correct CPT code. I will ask you to call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask if you have out-of-network mental health benefits and a deductible. Generally, PPO and POS plans reimburse 60-80% of the cost once your deductible is met, while HMO usually do not offer any out-of-network benefits.

If you do not qualify for out-of-network benefits and my rate is financially unsustainable for you, I may be able to offer reduced rates based on your income. If I am unable to provide you with a reduced rate, I will support you in the process of finding another trusted provider.
